Report: Jefferson Co. one of the “cheapest” counties in the U.S.

On Thursday, Porch, a home software company, released a roundup highlighting some of the “cheapest” areas across the U.S. and a number of Texas counties made the list, including Jefferson County in the top 10.
To determine the rankings, Porch researchers assessed Zillow home pricing information and Census Bureau data related to median household incomes. The results only include counties with more than 200,000 residents.
Overall, Hidalgo County, Texas claimed the top spot in Proch's large counties rankings, with El Paso County and Bexar County claiming the No. 3 and No. 15 spots, respectively. Among small counties, Jefferson County, Texas ranked No. 6, according to Porch, and Webb County came in at No. 15. Among midsize counties, Cameron County, Texas topped the list.
